Now Hiring: Assistant Executive Director

The Seaside Heights Business Improvement District (SSHBID) is a 501(c)(3), non-profit, economic development agency that works closely with Seaside Heights borough government to increase commercial property values in Seaside Heights by improving the business climate. With Seaside Heights being a beach, boardwalk, and bay oriented community, it is very active June, July, and August, and periodically busy in April, May, September, and October. The rest of the year is occupied planning for the tourism season and working on the revitalization of the town’s business areas that are off the boardwalk.

Business improvement districts, also known as special improvement districts, are designated geographic areas within which a special assessment is levied on commercial properties, collected by the municipality, and entrusted to a non-profit district management corporation. That management corporation is overseen by the assessed businesses and operated by professional staff, consultants, and volunteers. Additional funding for the districts come from activities such as festivals and ad-supported publications.

The Seaside Heights Business Improvement District was created in 2001. Michael Redpath, an experienced special/business improvement district manager, joined the SSHBID in February 2018 as part-time Executive Director. Redpath has been deeply involved in tourism in New Jersey for many years and chairs both the Ocean County Business and Tourism Advisory Council to the County Freeholders, and the Monmouth Ocean Development Council’s Cultural and Tourism Committee.
