Seaside Heights, NJ (July 2010) - The 10th Annual Water Safety Day will be held on July 21st from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Seaside Heights Boardwalk and Hiering Avenue.
"Safety at home or at the shore" is the theme of the event and many interesting programs will be held in order to educate guests on how to be safe at the shore. If weather permits, The Black Sheep Squadron will perform a fly-over during the event. In the ocean guests will be able to view vessels from the Coast Guard and the State Police Marine Unit.
During the event Seaside Heights lifeguards will simulate a rescue. "In Seaside Heights we have a unique system when performing rescues. All of our rescues are a two person effort and we hope to show people the series of events that occur when someone is being rescued" said Lieutenant Mike Ward. The Seaside Heights Fire Department will demonstrate the process taken when conducting an underwater search. Also, proper fishing techniques will be demonstrated by the Seaside Heights Fishing Club.
Safety at the shore also extends to non-water activities. The Ocean County Health Department will be on hand to teach guests the safe handling of foods during hot weather. Traveling to and from the beach is another safety issue that will be tackled at the expo and the New Jersey State Police will be offering Child Restraint Inspections.
Many organizations are expected to attend the event such as: The Ocean County Security Office, the Navy Lakehurst and Berkeley Township Underwater Rescue Team, the Community Medical Center, U.S. Army, and Jersey Paddler.
The event will be sponsored by the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders, Ocean County Partnerships in Safety, the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety, and the Borough of Seaside Heights. Water Safety Day promotes safety at a shore environment.
